Journalists often become targets of physical violence in times of communal and group riots and even when they are covering public meetings and demonstrations.
They become target of police, when they have to cover the events which are prohibited by the authorities.
Journalists sometimes become target of terrorists while giving coverage to terrorist attacks. They also face the risk of being harmed by the persons whom they have exposed in their reporting.
Journalists are also a part of the society. They are contributing their part in the development of the society.

In India considering the hostility and risk involved in the nature of work of Journalist some states have set up ‘Journalist Welfare Fund’ and introduced an Insurance scheme for the Journalists. Such fund and schemes are introduced so that Journalists feel secure.
